Richard Carter - Goathland, Scotland

Thomas Carter ( b. October 1st,1786.  m. Mary Snowdon, (b. 1794, d.  1847)

Thomas, son of Richard Carter of Goathland was born on October 1st,1786. He married Mary Snowdon, daughter of a Goathland farmer. Mary was born in 1794 and died in 1847. She was buried in Goathland churchyard, where there are two tombstones, one to her and one to her daughter Mary. Mary was born in 1819 and had two children both died when they were babies.
After Thomas and Mary were married they lived at Boereton Farm, Goathland. They lived in an attractive stone built house that is still occupied.

After the mother died in 1847 Thomas, the father, immigrated to Canada with his son Thomas and daughter Hannah.

Hannah’s brother Thomas built a house about 1/4 mile west of Beokley where he lived with his wife Annie Madill. They had six children, three boys and three girls. Thomas died when he was seventy two.

His oldest son Robert born in 1861 travelled to Carmen, Manitoba. He stayed the following winter in Ontario and then returned to Manitoba and bought a farm at Bethany.

"Thomas Carter  (b. Feb. 17, 1825) m. Annie Madill  |   Hannah

Thomas, their son was born in this house on February 17th,1825. He came to Canada with his father and married Annie Madill.
About 1824 Thomas, Mary and their family moved to a farm and inn at Newdonale, about 5 miles south of here where a railway was being built.
John born in 1829 and Hannah born in 1831 were born at this house.

The eldest daughter, Jane born June 16th,1816 married Anthony Stanford. He was a Goathland farmer. They remained in England.
